Covenant's Latest Announcements
I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends last week. We look forward to seeing everybody tomorrow as we get back into Dr. Jim Judge's series on the The Minor Characters of the Bible. You won't want to miss what he has coming up next.
Covenant Announcements:
1. This Sunday is the first of December, so please join us for lunch at Portillo's immediately after the 9:45am service. Last month was a great time as we took over and packed out the party room. Hopefully you can join us and get to know somebody new.
2. Please put on your calendars and RSVP to the Evite for the Covenant Christmas Party on December 16th. We love our children in Covenant, but this is one of the few events we do where it is adults only and we actually get a chance to have some conversations longer that 2 minutes. It will be a great time of fun, food, and fellowship. Knowing this group, the ugly Christmas sweaters will be spectacular and there will be prizes!
3. The Leadership team of Covenant will be having a planning session coming up to pray and to begin planning for the coming year. Covenant is your adult community, the Leadership team simply tries to keep it moving. If you have any comments, suggestions, speakers to invite to class(maybe you), or ideas to make Covenant better at loving God, growing together, and reaching the world, please reach out to the Adams', Weston's, Heth's or Linenger's.
Greater Church Announcements:
1. 2 WEEK BEGIN: Dec 11 and 18 at 11:15, Turn to the person next to you and ask, “Have you attended Begin?” If not, tell them, “This is the time to do it.” This is a special condensed two week session to learn about the vision and mission of Wheaton Bible Church. Through these two sessions, you will also learn how and where to connect to Community Life. If you have attended, tell others about Begin, especially during this Holiday Season and encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity. Contact Rhonda Ford, rford@wheatonbible.or to reserve your seat.

Questions, contact Pam Moore, 630.876.6627, pmoore@wheatonbible.org.

Two sessions are available at 9:00 or 10:15. Registration is required. Since you have read this far, the first person to respond to me with the words "ugly sweater", gets an extra special shout out in Covenant on Sunday and a little gift. Announcements for Week of June 19th
Class Announcements:
1. Jeff announced the speakers for the next five weeks of Covenant class. They are posted on the left sidebar.
2. For the month of July (except July 3), Covenant is responsible for aiding in coffee preparation for the Adult Communities. Mark and Sandy Smrha are going to be the point people for this. If you would be interested in helping out, please email Brooke (brookeweston@ymail.com).
3. Sunday morning Treats for Class -- We are in need of a couple to bring treats for class on the following Sundays: July 10, 24, 31 and August 7. Please email Brooke at brookeweston@ymail.com if one of those weeks works for you.
4. July 10th Lunch - Covenant class members are invited to meet at Portillo's for lunch after the second service. We will meet at the Portillo's located at 235 E. North Avenue in Glendale Heights.
Missionary Prayer Requests:
From the Sanford's -
"We're especially praying right now for our first few days and weeks in Lille, that we would stay focused and begin relationships with locals right away. Also that God would really guide our housing choices and take us to the house where we can best minister right in our neighborhood."
From the Pehrson’s -
"Beth, Jessie, and Ange were due to board a truck 3 hours ago to travel through the night on a 6-hour trip from Aitape to Wewak. Recently, tensions between clans have made traveling this road less safe than usual. Thankfully, our teammates somehow got our message about this when they left the remote villages in the bush, and they are traveling with the driver who reportedly has the right contacts with both sides. Please pray for a safe and uneventful trip.
"Starting this week, Ben, John, and four Aitape West translators (Emil, Kenny, Petrus, and Dominic) will be teaching in a two-week workshop on how to use the latest Paratext translation software. Our team has been helping United Bible Societies test and improve this software over the last two and a half years. About 40 Papua New Guinean participants from all across the country are attending this course with about 20 teaching assistants. We praise God that the Aitape West translators are at a point where they are passing on their knowledge and skills more and more to others involved in the Bible translation movement in PNG.
"[Three things to pray for regarding the workshop:] (1) Pray that each person involved in the workshop will grow in understanding how the software works. (2) Pray that the participants will grow in their ability to work well with others and to share what they know with others. (3) Please also pray that fruitful relationships will be formed and develop such that translators will spur one another on towards greater faith and holiness."

- Reaching Your Hindu Neighbor Wednesday, March 9, 6:45-8:00 pm, Chapel Looking to connect with other Indians here at church? Curious to learn more about what Hindus believe? We are going to be hearing from guest speaker Sam George on how to reach out to the many Hindu (mainly Indian) neighbors that we have. The Chicagoland area (specifically some of the western suburbs we live in) has one of the highest Indian populations in the US. Let's learn together how to effectively share Christ with them so that we can begin to make an impact in this area. No registration required.
- Help Your Children Become Best Friends in Christ, Wednesday, March 9, 6:45-8:00 pm, Upper 206 A free parenting workshop with Pastor Rob Rienow, author and founder of Visionary Parenting. Sibling relationships are often filled with: Jealousy-Anger-Violence-Rudeness-Rivalry. Have you ever seen these in your family? Parents want to see brothers and sisters "get along", "share" and "be friends." But God has far greater plans for how He wants brothers and sisters to relate to one another. God created siblings to be best friends in Christ and calls them to serve Him together. At this workshop, you will be equipped with principles from the Bible which will enable you to help the siblings in your family not just survive-but thrive in Christ. No registration required.

Dr. Jim Judge--Love & Respect, Day 1, 2/27/11
Jim led a discussion on Love & Respect as a follow-up to last week's sermon from Ephesians. He asked the men to collectively answer two questions and the women to do the same. Below are the questions and answers as well as the video leading up to and following the group discussions:
Men:
1) In practical terms, what does being respected look like? (Think of everyday examples of actions or attitudes that make you feel respected. Think of things that you wish your wife would do that would make you feel more respected.)
Responses:
Responses:
Women:
1) In practical terms, what does being loved look like? (Think of ever-day examples of actions that create a sense of being loved. Think of things you wish your husband did that would strengthen that sense of being loved.)

Men:
1) In practical terms, what does being respected look like? (Think of everyday examples of actions or attitudes that make you feel respected. Think of things that you wish your wife would do that would make you feel more respected.)
Responses:
- Being encouraged and Words of Affirmation--especially when it relates to our job and being the provider
- Time to unwind at the end of the business day--when returning home, 5 minutes to change, take a deep breath and not have a load of responsibilities dropped on him right away.
- Wife asks husband for advice or help--Husband feels like the hero
- Rather than a honey-do list of demands, ask husband to help accomplish tasks/needs together.
- Be specific about needs rather than expecting husband to figure it out--(Husbands will fail miserably!)
- Allow husbands to help rather than trying to do it all on own
- When things get crazy, use a respectful tone
- Refrain from participating in male-bashing when with friends
- Don't contradict or clarify for husband when he is telling a story in front of others (especially children)
Responses:
- Demands of life/business--we give our first-fruits to work and our wife gets the leftovers
- Pride (husbands want to be in charge/not admit faults)
- Expectation level--afraid of setting bar too high
- Past hurts
- Taking advantage of unconditional love
- Miscommunication--example: Husband is trying to speak words of affirmation or do tasks to help, but it makes wife feel more inferior.
Women:
1) In practical terms, what does being loved look like? (Think of ever-day examples of actions that create a sense of being loved. Think of things you wish your husband did that would strengthen that sense of being loved.)
Responses:
- Husband understanding and catering to wife's love language--taking the time to ask her what her love language is and then making an effort in that direction
- Helping around the house, helping with kids, acts of service means a lot to some
- Giving gifts means a lot to some
- Husband having a "team-oriented" approach to raising kids makes the wife feel loved
Responses:
- Pride
- "Old Married Stuff" -- hot topics in your marriage that create a negative undertone
- He doesn't listen to you
- When you feel alone (husband out of town) and you kept the house/kids together and don't feel like it was appreciated by him
- Work gets his best time/attitude
